It finally happened!
After years of waiting and just days before we stop living together, Josh and I were both in when two Jehovah’s Witnesses turned up on the doorstep. As they were both pretty sweet, we had a expansive but good-hearted chat on the desirability of immortality, the nature of free will and whether today’s world is really so bad after all.
But that’s not the interesting part. Although we were never going to convince each other, we did get their agreement that if God does exist and Paradise is established on Earth at some point in the future, we would be allowed to opt-out and die rather than go on forever. Not hell, just death.
I don’t think anyone’s ever agreed to this before, and I rather wish I had it in writing.
