I’m not a big Star Wars fan (Doctor Who is enough already!) but obviously I had to see Revenge of the Sith sometime. I’ve learnt not to treat the prequels too seriously and so it was enjoyable if not earth-shattering – Lucas still struggles with dialogue, Hayden Christensen still can’t act is a fine actor able to portray annoyance, impatience and anger often in the same scene and the whole thing ended exactly as you knew it would because it had to tie in with ‘A New Hope’.
But you’ve still got to see it if you hadn’t already, if only for the scene when Darth Vader puts on his mask for the first time. It’s culture – it’s Star Wars.
The Jedi still profoundly annoy me because they place themselves as the guardians of democracy, but resemble an aristocratic social club for the gifted. They happen to be good guys, but that’s just a coincidence, and could easily be Sith instead. And I bet no one would have cried fowl if Yoda had been granted ’emergency powers’ because he’s green, and we all know green = nature = good.
I also have to side with the Guardian – the use of the word ‘younglings’ is annoying. Stop it. They’re not ‘younglings’, they’re weak Jedis who got slaughtered by a guy with a scar in a cloak. Who, by the way, they outnumbered about 20 to 1. I thought they were supposed to be in intensive training? It would have made a surprise ending at least – Darth Vader defeated by kid Jedis who used the power of the happy slap.
Oh, and the scene transitions also get on my nerves! It’s like watching Windows Movie Maker in action…
Well Jason finally got his way – this is a 100% Star Wars post. Apart from this last bit: due to recent spamming, all comments will be forced into a moderation queue while I’m away over the next few days.
Enjoy the Desperate Housewives double bill finale – tonight at 10pm on 4!
It was pretty good, though all predictable. It was mostly a movie designed to tie everything together, not to be a great addition to the series.
Yes the transistions reminded me to of windows movie maker, and some even of the tackier effects in powerpoint, that really annoyed me the whole way through; as if they’d blown the budget on CG effects or the apprentice to Lucas was put in charge of them and thought circles getting smaller into the centre was really cool.
Younglings really bugged me too somehow, and yes perhaps light sabers should be replaced by camera phones and hoodies to properly utilise the true power of the happy slap.
Very predictable but quite good really.
Am I the only person who hasn’t seen/doesn’t want to see/hasn’t even seen Star Wars? Is this what the world is coming to?
I just realised the music I have been enjoying for the past hour is in fact neo-Nazi. Meh.
Dom, you still have time to change your mind about the dawn walk!
I would so love an explanation of the neo-Nazi music 😯
I haven’t seen it yet, either, Sanna I will do, cus Lee said I have to – which means I won’t.
my my my dominic. You had a whole blog about starwars. But you have made it seem cheap and tacky. By the way kids, my name is jason. Why would you pay to see Star Wars if you are just going to comment on every opinion of every thing you dont agree with? I have not only seen all the films with a great love, and the Revenge of the sith was a perfect way to end the prolog. Younglings are about 5yrs old. Im sure even you dom could kill about 20 5yr olds, and anyway, anikan is an exceptinal jedi, he is the jedi that will eventually defeats the sith. But im not going to correct all your hokey attemps to make star wars seem rubbish. But just remember, the main religion of austrailia is officially jedi. Just think about it
you sad bitches
