Thanks to various INSET \ Bank Holiday fun, there’s a four day weekend coming up. Hurrah! But woah, slow down there, because before that there’s loads of work to do. I’m developing rather elaborate coping strategies. Like ‘go to an A Level music performance’ to put off that English essay, or ‘for heaven’s sake don’t miss The Apprentice‘ to put off just about anything that might come up.
Incidentally, since I’m on a bit of a school rant, I had a slight little ‘uh-oh’ moment in Physics today. A bit like an oops, where are the prisoners? moment, but not quite as drastic. Basically – the concept was great. We’re practising for the practical and Hiten’s your partner! What can go wrong?
Well we still managed to screw up all three experiments. In fact, in one memorable incident, we discovered a new kind of ‘constant’ with the power to change from 1.17 to 1.60 at will and back again. It’s a magical constant I tell ye! Oh dear. Let’s hope work really hard so that things improve from the real thing on 16th May.
Enough negativity. Have I Got News For You recording on Thursday (still haven’t watched this week’s yet 
) and then on Friday I’m off to Birmingham\Rubery\Cofton\Marlbrook\’a big hill’ to nick Nic’s floor and stay the night. So if you’re in the area and you hear a strange accent in the air, come and say hi.

Oh so I’m using incorrect movement and colour am I? Well maybe I don’t want to stimulate my viewers too much! 
Just watched Doctor Who – hurrah, werewolf! Oh, love it, love it. Especially the kung fu monks. 
This is something I feel strongly about. Medical research is at the cornerstone of our progress and development as a society. Throughout history many millions have died from diseases we can now cure thanks to medicine developed using animal research. However, some people are against the use of animals in laboratories and carry out sometimes violent, intimidating and illegal attacks to try and impose their will on others.
If you believe, like I do, that we should stand up to those who attempt to bully and coerce us into stopping this kind of research – then please sign this petition. If you’re undecided about the use of animals in medical research, consider:
- We are not talking about research into cosmetics or beauty products. Licences in this country are only granted to important medical and scientific research projects.
- Abuse can and will occur with animal testing, as with any other field. But this should not be a reason to discontinue it.
- If you eat meat, ask yourself why you don’t object to animals being killed (strictly unnecessarily) for food but not for life-saving medicines.
- If you are a vegetarian or vegan, consider if this is a personal choice or something you would impose on everyone if you had the chance. Would you ban the eating of meat? Should we therefore ban animal testing?
Think about it. If you agree, please sign up. At the time of writing, you will be joining about six and a half thousand others who agree with you.
News just in: they teach blogging in schools now! Wow 
Well apparently they do here, since my blog is being held up as some kind of template for the Year 8s to follow. Interesting.
I wonder if it’ll work. Can you ‘tell’ people to write a blog? Will that ruin the fun? Will you end up with a class of MySpace accounts? Apparently, the teacher who asked me about this (howdy to you Sir) believes that blogging is an ‘important literary movement’… is it, or is just a bunch of *shifty eyes* emotional outbursts about dead cats?
Oh who cares, anything promotional is fine by me!
This, incidentally, is a strange little semi-promotional video (edit – I say semi-promotional, but in their infinite wisdom, Google seem to have cut off the final caption. ‘Love it’ was the strap line, with dominicself.co.uk. Oh well.) I made at the beginning of the holidays. It doesn’t mean anything, the soundtrack is stolen from Sonic the Hedgehog and you’re only losing about ten seconds of your life by watching it. So go on, I dare you.
It was back to school and ‘real work’ today, and I can actually feel myself slipping back into work mode quite easily which is reassuring. Still have rather a lot of Maths work to do for Friday, but it’ll come, it’ll come…
Last night I went to bed at around 2am, which is pretty much usual for a non-school night. But I didn’t go to sleep immediately, mainly cause I had just run into a few problems with the maths coursework and was wondering if it’d be able to put it all right in time for Wednesday when we go back. So then I jumped up, turned on the lamp, reached out for a pad of paper and jotted down, in bullet points, all the little things I had to do in order to get it finished. And today… well, I just followed the path laid out for me at 2 in the morning and all is well. First draft of Maths coursework is done and printed, sitting neatly printed (16 pages, printed double sided) and stapled on my bed.
Which is a nice ending to the story. Much more agreeable than “but I’ve still got loads of work to do!” which may be true but isn’t as nice.

Right! Fabio has asked me to make this announcement on my blog to all the QPCS people. He has discovered that Ms. Biddlecombe (our Humanities teacher in Year 9, although she also taught English) is now in a strange low budget Australian movie. Hurrah!
