GCSE results – was it really a whole year ago?

Wow, so it was. Mega congratulations to everyone who triumphed in their exams this summer – in Birmingham at least, you’ve all done brilliantly! (There’s Nic, Andy, Lucy and Josie there but I’ve also heard great things from Nathan, Lou, Fliss… and more. Well done!)

There was some sad news today, however. Pluto – our beloved ninth planet – has been stripped of its status and will shortly be removed from the collective consciousness, leaving only eight planets in our solar system. Yes, I understand why it had to happen. But it’s still upsetting. My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets, I was taught, by Mr. Fisher in Year 5 to be precise. All gone now.

At least Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1 today, and finally fixed a UI bug I’d moaned about for ages. Huzzah! Savour the small victories Dominic…

Because it’s the Apple store and a long-standing tradition.

Observation of the Day: It really is the 21st, no matter what any coach driver might say.

On Saturday morning Mum, Tash and Katie got back from an awesome trip to Tanzania. Yaaay It’s good to have sisters back – we danced to the Spice Girls (confession time here) then settled down to watch The Breakfast Club with take-away pizza. I love you guys (gals). You can read more here and see the glorious photo album here.

The one bad news is that mum spent the night in hospital last night but no, it’s not serious and no, it’s not Malaria. And she’s back now and reigning supreme in the Self household as well as getting back on top of the state of the laundry room.

One side effect of having the girls back is that the digital camera is also back, meaning that I might finally update the photo on the home page I can also now officially announce (since it’s not a secret anymore) PC5 is here! The newest baby \ computer is in Katie’s room complete with excellently assembled – if we do say so ourselves – desk and chair from the glorious IKEA.

For fans of over-wrought analysis, here are my full results. A bit of explanation: the most important number is the one out of 300. (An AS level is 300 points, A2 a further 300, together they make a 600 point A level.) You need 240 points to get an A… in English I did rather well and got the full 300 this year while in Maths and Physics I got 261. Interestingly, I did actually get a B in one of my units for History – it was the Russian one. But hey, it all works out

We went to the pub to celebrate afterwards – although I’m a bit of a wuss, since the pub lunch interested me more than the alcohol! Joshua also gave me the most fantastic present ever in the history of the world… and I’ll blog about it when we get the camera back \ we figure out how to get the batteries in

Right, off to Brighton today. Congratulations to everyone else who got good results, and if you were disappointed – just sit down and plan what you have to do and you’ll be fine. Honestly.

4 As. Um… How the hell did that happen? love you all
