Selling alcohol to someone who is drunk carries a fine of up £1000; a court may suspend or remove a certain licence upon conviction
Selling alcohol to someone who’s drunk is illegal? How drunk is drunk? Is this ever enforced? What about selling alcohol to someone who is high or under the influence of something else? How can this even be true?!?

Wow, that went fast. And we’ve only got one more half time till the first round of AS exams (in English and Physics)… [gulp!]
Talking of school, a few weeks ago I wondered why the school couldn’t be more internet aware. Amazingly, today was the first time the newsletter was sent out by e-mail to those who had subscribed. Hooray!
On Monday I’ve got to go in for Physics, but otherwise I’m free for the next week. Well ‘free’ – there’s still homework. And revision. Obviously. 
Incidentally, my ancient QBASIC Maths Games has been updated, mainly with bug fixed.

Captain Jack to get his own series in new Russell T Davies drama for BBC THREE
Russell T Davies is to write a sci-fi paranoid thriller in a major new drama commission for BBC THREE, it was announced today by Stuart Murphy, Controller of BBC THREE.
Torchwood is a 13-part drama series aimed at a post-watershed audience and has an organic link to Doctor Who.
“Torchwood is a British sci-fi paranoid thriller, a cop show with a sense of humour,” says Davies.
So Captin Jack gets his own TV show, in an anagram of Doctor Who 
Wonderful!
Hmm… 26 weeks of Doctor Who-related material… that’s half a year’s worth!

Well it’s past midnight, making it the 16th October and Dad’s birthday. Hurrah!
I just caught More4’s repeat of The Deal (huge thanks to Mr X for alerting me to it minutes before!) Great stuff – steeped deep in Labour Party mythology now I think, just as Helestine vs Thatcher is embedded in Tory memories. Watching the scenes of Labour in opposition was quite moving actually. Even if it wasn’t my generation.
I’ve changed my mind about the Tory leadership contest by the way – Cameron would be the best PM of the candidates, and the one Labour should be most worried about. Clarke is yesterday’s man. The drugs question shows Cameron to be principled. He has defended his right to have a private life, and quite rightly. He has also supported drug law reform, sometimes against his own party. I think he shows even the Conservatives can move on from Thatcherism. And what could be more hopeful that, whichever party wins the next election, we will never return to those days?
