A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

I’m not a big Star Wars fan (Doctor Who is enough already!) but obviously I had to see Revenge of the Sith sometime. I’ve learnt not to treat the prequels too seriously and so it was enjoyable if not earth-shattering – Lucas still struggles with dialogue, Hayden Christensen still can’t act is a fine actor able to portray annoyance, impatience and anger often in the same scene and the whole thing ended exactly as you knew it would because it had to tie in with ‘A New Hope’.

But you’ve still got to see it if you hadn’t already, if only for the scene when Darth Vader puts on his mask for the first time. It’s culture – it’s Star Wars.

The Jedi still profoundly annoy me because they place themselves as the guardians of democracy, but resemble an aristocratic social club for the gifted. They happen to be good guys, but that’s just a coincidence, and could easily be Sith instead. And I bet no one would have cried fowl if Yoda had been granted ’emergency powers’ because he’s green, and we all know green = nature = good.

I also have to side with the Guardian – the use of the word ‘younglings’ is annoying. Stop it. They’re not ‘younglings’, they’re weak Jedis who got slaughtered by a guy with a scar in a cloak. Who, by the way, they outnumbered about 20 to 1. I thought they were supposed to be in intensive training? It would have made a surprise ending at least – Darth Vader defeated by kid Jedis who used the power of the happy slap.

Oh, and the scene transitions also get on my nerves! It’s like watching Windows Movie Maker in action…

Well Jason finally got his way – this is a 100% Star Wars post. Apart from this last bit: due to recent spamming, all comments will be forced into a moderation queue while I’m away over the next few days.

Enjoy the Desperate Housewives double bill finale – tonight at 10pm on 4!

Q. Guess what! Mum and Tasha are off to Venice tomorrow!
A. That’s not a question.

Q. Sorry, but I had to get kick-start this post.
A. OK.

Q. Wait a sec… Tash is going to Venice? Didn’t she just get an iPod mini? Lucky sod.
A. That’s two questions. And no, it’s not because of her birthday.

Q. Oh?
A. We take it in turns to go on these mini-holiday things. I went to Washington DC and later Rome. Katie went to Grenada.

Q. How lovely. So, you’ll be staying in London then, revising hard?
A. Don’t be silly. I’ll be in Suffolk.

Venice vs Suffolk

Q. Suffolk?
A. Dad takes the others to Suffolk instead.

Q. I’m going to stop talking to you now, since you’re really just me, and talking to yourself is the first sign of madness.
A. I was just thinking the same thing. Bye!

OK – this morning I was a bit grumpy and was rather unfair to Apple. As Pingu said, “You’re seeming a bit ‘I’m holding the fort because apple’s taking over my pc'” and he’s right. Tonight iTunes has impressed me by accepting a USB 1.1 port – meaning that Natasha can use her iPod mini in her room. And, yes, that ‘browse’ button really helps!

I really needed to go for a walk and once I did today has been great. Tasha had a picnic in the park so I got to have lots of cake, coke and chocolate brownies. And then our new neighbours came round (one of which works for Sky and told me Murdoch reads Digital Spy!) and they are just reeeaally nice.

Ah – what a nice day.

Yet another edit – I forgot the big news of the day! Microsoft announced they are will be discontinuing the use of the word ‘My’ before everything in Longhorn.

Happy Birthday Tash!

Being stuck on a bus isn’t fun – especially when these two really annoying girls are practising how to say resemblance over and over again. At least I got Natasha’s card and present – so prepare for (another) birthday announcement tomorrow.

Doctor Who was utterly fantastic last night – if you missed it, you’ve got to catch BBC3 tonight at 7pm. Next time I go to the doctor I’m dying to say “physical injuries… as PLAGUE” in a Richard Wilson-y voice.

And finally – Will has finally started blogging using some proper software. Welcome! I still can’t believe that domain was just going free either…!
