Apologies for the lack of blogging

Although I’m not really sorry – it is Christmas after all and I’ve got things to do! Why bore you with the fact I went to the dentist (true) when I could be having fun (true) and learning how to partition TARDIS – I even installed Windows 3.11 on it the other day (also true!)

Basically, I’ll get back blogging properly when I go back to school, get given loads of stuff to do and use it as a way of avoiding homework. Happy Holidays!

P.S. The comment spam continues, but my defences are working a treat. Mwhaha!

Well, tonight was the last in the series (I presume) – it’s back ‘in the new year’.

Have I Got News For You

We’ll see, of course, but it looks like the BBC have made the guest presenter arrangement permanent. It keeps the programme very fresh in my opinion. A new host would always appeal to some of the audience more than others, so why not have a mixture?

Why, by the way, are there so few sites dedicated to HIGNFY? I mean, look at the Yahoo Directory listing, it’s pathetic. Martyn Alner is about the only guy to have made anything. Sigh, I might have to do it myself sometime.

I suppose everyone has their own dream candidate to host a show. Personally, I’d love to see Jon Stewart, who seems to work his way into a scarily large number of my blog posts at the moment. Angus Deayton also needs a come back, maybe as a guest? In fantasy land now, but imagine Blair? Maybe when he resigns over Iraq he’ll consider it… (Told you I was in fantasy land.)

Christmas TV looks especially dire this year to be honest. At least we got The Office Christmas Specials last time, although Dead Ringers has been on a real high recently and so their show should be worth watching at least.

Christmas comes but once a year, and this season we’re getting some special gifts a little early. David Blunkett has gone. David ‘Police State’ Blunkett is out.

Now, let’s be fair. I respect Blunkett because he believes in what he is doing, and it seems that he really hasn’t done anything wrong. It’s the best way for him to go – the door is firmly closed but he hasn’t left in disgrace. There’s a huge feeling of sympathy for the man, and that’s good.

But, change in the Home Office is much needed. David Blunkett has been obsessed with chasing headlines and seeing just how far he can go to annoy civil rights groups. The holding of prisoners at Belmarsh without trial is a low point for British dignity. And we all know the real reason Blunkett has gone – it’s nothing to do with visas or nannies and everything to do with the bizare slagging of his colleagues.

It’s doubly good that Blunkett is out because now Charles Clarke can take his place. The man who keeps pushing City Academies [spits on floor] can now go and be ‘the hard man’ where we need one – in the Home Office. Yes, you read that right, we need a toughie to take on the misery of crime that affects the worst off in this country. (Oh, and ever since he put Prince Charles in his place, I’ve always had a soft spot for Clarke.)

So – things get interesting (again) – for one thing, I wonder how this affects Blair? Only time will tell… along with the journalists, columnists and bloggers, of course. But don’t listen to them. They’re just happy it’s Christmas.

My RE Paper

The scary thing is that I only got 90% on History! I actually did better at the pure fiction of the religious than ‘truth’ (well, relatively) of history. Now what does that say about me? (That was a rhetorical question, I don’t want to know.)

My ICT mock today contained a question on a company known as Doggytoys International. They used ‘videoconferencing’ in which, we were solemnly told, ‘webcams are very important.’ Hmmm… the company is called Doggytoys, it uses webcams… I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Seems like someone at Edexcel has been having a bit of fun!

Comment spam, as I’ve found today, can be a real problem for blogs. I take a very strict attitude, I will never allow my blog to be hijacked in this way, and will manually delete every single piece of scum if I have to.

My first response this afternoon was to do just that, until I realised the attacks wouldn’t stop anytime soon. So next, I tried blocking specific IP addresses, first for posting comments, then for the whole site. This failed, because of the huge amount of addresses used by the enemy.

Next, I moved on to Comment Control, a Nucleus plugin. This solved the main problem, as every single comment now had to be moderated by me. The spammers have been defeated, but at the cost of a lot of my time.
